Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

This Fall, we are going to be reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling!

"The first novel in the Harry Potter series and Rowling's debut novel, it follows Harry Potter, a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage on his eleventh birthday, when he receives a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry makes close friends and a few enemies during his first year at the school, and with the help of his friends, Harry faces an attempted comeback by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents, but failed to kill Harry when he was just 15 months old."

Through the lens of this novel we will also be reviewing the basic Parts of Speech, which we will get into in more detail further in the year.  We will also be learning about Literary Elements, how to identify them, and how to use them – with a specific focus on Tone and Mood.  There will be a flipped classroom element to these lessons, so please keep an eye out for this on the "Supporting Materials" page within the menu on the left of the screen.
