Writing Lesson: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Today, we had a Writing lesson for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  Through the writing of J.K. Rowling, we learned about different Literary Elements, but took extra time looking at Tone and Mood, covering how to identify them as readers, how to use them as writers, and how they are shown in an author's writing.

With this lesson, we had an exercise where we looked at a couple passages and identified the Tone and Mood within them.  We then did a MadLibs style exercise in class, using different Literary Elements as determiners for which words we chose to fill the different empty spaces in the paragraphs we chose.  After this, we passed out completed MadLibs to other House members and tried to figure out what the author's intended Tone and Mood were.
